Lexus is one of the more common luxury brands on Ottawa roads, and whether you drive an ES, RX, NX, or a hybrid variant of any of these, getting the battery replacement right depends on knowing which battery your specific car actually has — because on hybrid models, there are two, and they are not the same thing.
Two Different Batteries on Hybrid Models
Hybrid Lexus models like the RX 450h, ES 300h, and NX 300h have a standard 12V battery, which starts the car's electronics and accessories, and a separate high-voltage hybrid battery, which powers the electric drive system. These are entirely different components with entirely different jobs. Our mobile service replaces the 12V battery — the same type of issue that causes a no-start, clicking, or electrical symptoms in any other vehicle. We do not service the high-voltage hybrid traction battery; that's a specialized, dealership-level job involving different equipment, safety procedures, and cost entirely. If your Lexus hybrid won't start, in the large majority of cases it's the 12V battery, not the hybrid battery — but we're upfront about the distinction so there's no confusion about what our visit covers.
Where the 12V Battery Actually Is
On most Lexus hybrid models, the 12V auxiliary battery is located in the trunk or rear cargo area, typically hidden behind a side trim panel on the passenger (right) side or beneath the floor storage panels — though exact placement can still vary by model and year. Non-hybrid Lexus models more often keep the battery in a conventional engine-bay location. We confirm your specific vehicle's battery location before starting the job rather than assuming based on the model name alone.
Some Lexus models use AGM batteries and onboard systems that can register a newly installed battery through Toyota/Lexus diagnostic software, similar in concept to other premium makes. We install the correct battery type for your specific model, but we do not currently perform this electronic registration step, which requires dealership-level equipment. Most vehicles run normally on a properly installed but unregistered battery.
